DESIGN MUMBAI

Design

India’s first contemporary design show with an international perspective, Design Mumbai is a celebration of great design that showcases local and international brands, architects and interior designers.

A carefully curated four-day programme of talks, workshops and keynote addresses from high-profile speakers and brands takes place against a backdrop of inspiring interactive installations and features by Indian and world-renowned designers. Soho House Mumbai will host the Design Mumbai restaurant, offering guests a taste of members’ club-quality design, service, food and drink.

Design Mumbai will also host interactive installations and features by world-renowned designers and brands. For example, an outdoor exhibit by Studio Saar, the UK- and Udaipur-based architecture practice, will demonstrate its dynamic and thoughtful designs that drive positive social and environmental change, while Richard Hutten and THE Park Hotels will collaborate on an exclusive concept space that challenges the status of contemporary hospitality.

While India has a rich history and a vast reservoir of traditional skills and craftsmanship, it is also a powerhouse of innovation and new technology. Chris Lefteri, a leading expert in material innovation, will host a Material Lab, showcasing the latest in sustainable and cutting-edge materials.

Royal Enfield, the iconic motorcycle manufacturer, will be showcasing its brand-new Royal Enfield Classic 350 model at Design Mumbai. Under the banner of ‘The Year of the Classic’, Royal Enfield also plans to introduce an exciting endeavour with Design Mumbai for riders with a keen interest in art and design. Slated to host a special session on classic design by the world’s top designers, this collaboration will meld the worlds of motorcycling and design, providing a unique opportunity to explore the creative processes that shape the aesthetics and functionality of their beloved motorcycle.

Traditional Indian craftsmanship allied with modern aesthetics is evident in products from established companies and emerging talents in domains ranging from textiles, rugs and ceramics to lighting, furniture and homewares. Jaipur Rugs, Objectry and Loco Design are just three exhibitors whose designs encompass the traditional and the contemporary.

Sustainable design is represented by many exhibits including building and interior products such as recycled plywood lamps from Rockpaperscissors and Stonelite architectural finishes from La-Neesh.

Design Mumbai is a gateway to a vibrant culture with a highly developed manufacturing capability and an expanding market. The opportunities offered by India – it’s the world’s fifth biggest economy – are recognised by the large number of international brands who will take part in the fair, such as de Sede, Poltrona Frau, VitrA and Hastens.

CINCINATTI MODERN

High on a hillside in Cincinnati, sits a two-storey modernist wonder by two unsung heroes of American architecture, built for an art collector in the 1980s and that has been given a sensitive makeover to accommodate the collection of its second owner.
