Engaging with Design Mumbai offers a new and exciting opportunity to showcase the craftsmanship and design of this remarkable country on the global design stage. The event will feature leading international brands such as Zaha Hadid Design, Vitra, Naja Utzon Popov, Louis Poulsen, Wendelbo, &Tradition and Richard Hutten, as well as Indian contemporary studios including Andblack design studio and AKFD.
Andblack design studio is based in Ahmedabad and led by the talented duo Jwalant Mahadevwala and Kanika Agarwal Mahadevwala. Their innovative approach, emphasizing collaboration and creativity, has earned them recognition. The Darwin Bucky Gallery stands as a testament to their ability to create immersive environments.
Ayush Kasliwal, head of design studio AKFD in Jaipur, is a graduate of Ahmedabad’s National Institute of Design. His work skillfully integrates ancient, local crafting techniques with contemporary design, resulting in unique and uncompromising pieces. Kasliwal’s design philosophy, centred on honesty, playfulness and ecology, seeks to integrate Indian artisanal traditions into Western interiors. The latest collection, inspired by the tales of Aladdin, merges handwoven rugs with functional furniture, crafting a captivating narrative. Collaborating with Cocoon Carpets, AKFD explores Persian motifs, offering a luxurious lounging experience through minimal structure and furniture that harmonises traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.
